MAGIC MURRAY TAKES LEAD INTO FINAL DAY
Scotland’s George Murray goes into the final round of the Egyptian Open presented by SODIC one shot ahead of Italy’s Alessandro Tadini and Floris de Vries of Holland at the JW Marriott, Mirage City Golf Club.
The Scot moved to the top of the leaderboard thanks to a storming birdie-birdie-eagle finish saw him shoot 68 (-4) for a three round total of twelve under par.
It was a brilliant finish by Murray who had produced fifteen back-to-back pars before picking up four shots on the closing three holes including holing a magnificent wedge from the fairway for eagle on the par fourth 18th.
“I was playing alright and never had any great chances and then had a pretty explosive finish,” smiled Murray who won his first Challenge Tour title in Scotland four months ago. “I had 143 yards on the 18th and my caddie was trying to get me to hit a gap wedge and I said ‘no, no my friend, give me the wedge’ and she took one bounce and went straight in.
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow now – I am playing with a lot more confidence now which has just been a culmination of doing everything a bit better this year. I have had some great results this year with the win in Scotland obviously the highlight so far. It would be nice to win another one tomorrow and pick up that big cheque again.”
Despite admitting to being happier with his game after shooting his best round of the week, World Number Nine Rory McIlroy is ten shots off the lead in joint 20th place after a third round three under par 69 took him to two under par for the tournament. |
