SLATTERY THE HALFWAY LEADER
AT EGYPTIAN OPEN PRESENTED BY SODIC
Lee Slattery is the leader at the halfway stage of the Egyptian Open 2010 presented by SODIC after the 32 year-old Englishman shot a superb 66 (-6) to move to nine under par (135), one shot ahead of Scotland's George Murray and overnight leader Alessandro Tadini of Italy.
"I just didn't put a foot wrong today," said Slattery after a round that included seven birdies and just one bogey.
"Everything has felt pretty good this week and it is not often you come into a tournament feeling confidence throughout every aspect of your game – hopefully I can keep it going for the next two days."
A former Challenge Tour winner, Slattery is well aware what a win in Cairo could do for his career.
"If I could win here then I'd be safe for next year and the target at the moment is to get into the top 15 - anything better than that would be a bonus and winning here would come into that category."
World number nine Rory McIlroy continued to struggle with his swing. Although a disappointing two over par 74 saw him edge through to the final two days of the $250,000 Challenge Tour event, he remains ten shots adrift of tournament leader Slattery on one over par.
